  • Most of this is entirely accurate, but there are a few things to note: 1) The charger has nothing to do with charging speed, beyond just giving access to the listed amount of power. The phone (or whatever device is plugged in) determines charging rate, which is how you can plug a 5 year old iPhone into a 65W charging brick and the thing doesn't light on fire. The charger plug only allows access to power, it doesn't control the flow rate in any way. 2) The ideal charge percentage is not 50% in modern batteries - most hover around the 80% mark, because they're designed to operate most efficiently at the charge level they believe is the average among all users at any given time; basically, most phone companies believe the average of all phones at any given time to be around 80% (since a lot of people leave it plugged in all the time, some are anal about charging, and a minority are dead or low), so the batteries will actually hold their charge best at that percentage. What that means is that the more time your phone spends around that point, the longer the battery will actually last. 3) Not something you were wrong about, but something very important: Lithium Ion batteries are designed to never actually hit 0% or 100%. They have internal protection that prevents charging once they reach a pre-determined percentage (usually 98% or so), and a physical protection circuit that will prevent the batteries from being charged once they hit a lower amount. Phones will never discharge near that amount, so when your phone says 0% the battery actually usually has 2% or more left in it, but the phone is configured to prevent the battery from discharging that far. Once the battery discharges past the limit, though, it will actively prevent charging in the future.

  • I just got a new phone (oneplus nord), its the first one with fast charging ive had First thing i did was install a battery app that gives me a notification at a certain percentage of charge (like 80%) Instead of charging it overnight (7 to 10h), I now charge it in the morning when I start working and in half an hour its done. I only need to charge it again in the evening when I used my phone a lot (like in weekends) I hope this phone will last me well over 2 years (my previous ones usually lasted 2-3y), if it lasts 5-6 years then it certainly was worth paying double the price I previously payed

  • Maybe but it's not like we are oblige to charge our phone at 100%. Phone right now can handle 2 day without be charged again. If i take a Xiaomi phone with 120W charger i will charge 50% in 5min maybe i havent check the number. During this time the battery will not reach a higher temperature so if i stop charging my phone at this moment it's possible for me to avoid the inconvenient of the fast charge. More than that battery can be changed i guess.

  • if you want to keep your liion-battery alife for as long as possible, charge slow, stop at 90% and don´t go below 10%. On Lenovo Thinkpads you can do those settings in the power manager. Tesla, for example, stops charging at 90% by default. Sadly, on most smartphones you cannot do that.

    Adam ChudomelAdam ChudomelПре 17 дана
    • Also, battery heats up during charging not because of faster electron movement, but because every charger has a less than 100% efficiency, for example 80% or so. If you charge your battery with 20 watts or 40 watts, the electrons move at the same speed, but 20% of 40 watts is more than 20% of 20 watts, so all that energy ends up as waste heat. (The electrons being faster is a side effect of heating up, not the cause for the heat)

  • Since this video was made on 4 Oct I will give him the benefit of the doubt. On 18 Nov 2020 Apple agreed to a fine of $113m in the BatteryGate saga. Apple was accussed of "deliberately" slowing iPhones to force people to buy the newer iphones. Apple's excuse was it did so to preserve battery life. See the article below. Apple does not provide a charger or earphones with the iPhone 12. You can buy a set of Apple Max earphones for $549! The AirPod Pro buds cost $200. On Amazon a "locked" iPhone 12 costs between $870 - $1100. So are we to understand Apple has the consumer's interest in anything? No!. In Aug 2020 Apple's value was $2 trillion! which is higher than the GDP of Italy, Brazil, Canada, Russia and South Korea! Apple Agrees To Pay $113 Million To Settle 'Batterygate' Over Slowdowns The issue reportedly affected phones released between 2014 and 2016. As part of the settlement, Apple also agreed to be more transparent about software updates that affect a phone's life.
